hey~ I’m erin (lowercase e intentional).

Welcome to my Substack: a sort of hybrid newsletter / blog / Patreon that’ll let you come take a peak at all the creative chaos I’ve been dipping my fingers into lately. I’ve been a creative-type all my life: it started with a love of music, then I fell hard for more traditional language and writing, and lately, I’ve been flirting with game development.

It’s a lot to keep up with — even for me sometimes! — but that’s why this Substack exists. It’s a one-stop-shop that puts all of the control in your hands which pieces you see and get delivered to your inbox on a semi-regular basis.

What do you get out of subscribing?

I’m glad you asked! Right now, we’re just getting started, but here’s what you have to look forward to:

Fiction:

  • Deep dives into the universe of my main novel series, Lazy Tequila Afternoons, through location exploration, character dossiers, and more.

  • Deleted scenes from upcoming publications.

  • Bonus short stories / extra scenes with Lazy Tequila Afternoons characters you will get to know and love.

  • Sneak-peaks of chapters from upcoming, yet unpublished, novels within the universe.

  • One-off short stories that are otherwise unrelated to the Lazy Tequila Afternoons canon.

  • A chapter of my tongue-in-cheek, creative nonfiction essay collection To My Beloved Ex-Boyfriends [Paid subscriptions only].

Game Development:

  • Written Dev Logs — a monthly blog-style check-in that will keep you up to date on all the things I’ve managed to get done across my numerous game development projects. Maybe including videos / gifs / images, depending on what work has been done, but definitely including exclusive behind-the-scenes updates and information about how things work.

  • Video Dev Logs — a quarterly video update of what’s been going on with the progress of my main game project, All the King’s Men.

  • Encyclopedic lore posts that explore the deeper ideological pieces of the All the King’s Men universe. A non-exhaustive list of topics that will be covered: religion, politics, morality, naming conventions, personality quirks, regional differences, topography, and more!

  • Access to early alpha builds of All the King’s Men [Paid subscriptions only].

  • Free downloads of old game jam entries in their very-jam-jank state [Paid Subscriptions only].

  • Post-mortem reflection blogs that outline my overall thoughts on how events I participated in or projects I’ve completed went, as well as what I would change if I were to do it again.

Non-fiction / Miscellaneous:

  • Writing Rambles — posts about my personal writing process, reflections on craft as a whole, tips and tricks, or just exercises that I’m trying / using and finding some sort of value in (or a warning against them because I think they’re a waste of time).

  • State of the Author — a blog-style check-in at the end of each month to let you know what sort of progress I’ve made on all of my collected writing projects throughout the month and how I feel about them in their current state.

  • I Read / Played / Watched / Tried This So You Don’t Have To — in depth reviews of books I’ve read (fiction and nonfiction alike), games I’ve played, things I’ve watched (from YouTube Video Essays to syndicated TV shows to movies, and more), and random recipes and other things I’ve tried throughout the month.

  • Travel Blogs and Introspections on Places — pretty much what it says on the tin. Will probably be pretty photo-heavy, so you’ll also get to see pretty things.

Choose your own adventure

You can update what category of posts you want delivered directly to your inbox by clicking the button below. You’ll always have access to the post archive directly through Substack, even if you don’t opt-in to the direct emails (though I think you should). If you prefer reading on your phone, where you can enjoy a spam-free, ad-free reading experience, plus audio and community features, you can also get the Substack app.

Share your thoughts

I’d love to hear from you — especially if our thoughts and opinions are different, or if you have a suggestion for improvement on any of my projects. I encourage you to participate in the comments section, or support my work with a subscription.

A note on paid subscriptions

First of all, it means a lot to me that you’re willing to subscribe to this little newsletter arriving in your inbox at all, paid or unpaid. I sincerely value everyone willing to read my writing at all.

But, since I know we all value our money, I wanted to break down what exactly the paid option looks like with full transparency. The pieces that are behind the paywall are clearly denoted above, so you can see what you would be getting in addition. Those perks will continue to grow as this Substack does (eventually adding in monthly sub-only livestreams and other exclusive post types).

Pricing is set to the lowest point Substack allows: $5 / month, or $50 annually (which saves you $10 a year). There is a third option for “founding members.” This basically makes you a VIP member of the Substack, wherein you’ll get all of the paid benefits, plus additional VIP content — and I’m open to suggestions on what you’d like to see there. As long as it’s something reasonable, I’ll add it in. That is a perk of being a VIP.

That being said, I’m going to run discounted subscriptions as often as Substack will let me, so if you want to sub and don’t see a discount, reach out. I’ll see what I can do for you.
